Yvonne Ridley, Islam and the Taleban

Well this is only the second of my posts on Islam... hopefully there will be more to come

These days Islam and Muslims get a great deal of bad press... so its quite nice and refreshing to read articles which show Islam positively.

The following is an article about Journalist Yvonne Ridley who was captured in Afghanistan, on being released she came home and decided to look into Islam and The Holy Quran. She subsequently "reverted" to Islam.

She was a reporter for the Sunday Express and this is her story three years on:

She is now a presenter on the Islam Channel.

The first thing I would like to say before responding is that I personally don't condone killing innocents and abhor violence. I don't condone any terrorist action either.

I would not say that all muslims are in a better position (and I'm not saying that Tibetian monks have a great time either) but the fact is that there are a lot of muslims out there who are suffering and being oppressed... and when faced with watching your families, friends, communities and people in this position, is this reaction that is called terrorism so illogical to the mind of those in pain and suffering.

Remember also that many of yesterday's terrorists are applauded as Freedom fighters / Revolutionaries today... I could give you a list but it would be too long.

One example though is the IRA in Northern Ireland (who were very well supported in the US politically) but carried out a lot of "killings" in the UK, to there supporters they are freedom fighters but what of the "victims".

The truth is when many people are faced with watching there own suffer, and they see no other way out other than inflicting pain on others - they will take this action to free there own!

My intention is not to cause an argument or fight, its merely just my opinion.

I don't think that killing anyone is right (I don't think the 9/11 attack or the Madrid bombings were right).

But I was trying to get across that sometimes desperate people resort to desperate measures. And while some muslims are better off, not all are (and I'm not trying to belittle the Tibetian cause either).

The thing to remember also is that worldwide muslim community sees itself as one body and whenver one part of the body is hurt the whole body can feel it... this is why there is a worldwide reaction from the muslim community.
